ZERO 7/STEVE EARLE/DESTROYERS

15-06-2009

Birmingham’s Town Hall/Symphony Hall continues to attract some of the most intriguing gigs in the region. The latest batch of shows include Zero 7, Steve Earle and The Destroyers.

Here’s the latest TH/SH press release:

ZERO 7

The Grammy award nominated duo of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker aka Zero 7, will close an intimate UK tour at Town Hall Birmingham celebrating the release of their fourth studio album 'Yeah Ghost'.

With their own history of production and sound engineering for UK artists such as the Pet Shop Boys and Robert Plant, Zero 7 are unparallelled in the field of warm, ambient downtempo music, shooting to stardom with the release of debut album 'Simple Things' in 2001 - featuring vocals from singers Sia Furler, Mozez and Sophie Barker - co-writer of the Zero 7 hit 'Destiny' and vocals on 'In The Waiting Line'.

FRANK CARSON

Belfast-born funnyman Frank Carson is set to have audiences' sides splitting with a visit to Town Hall Birmingham later this year.

One of the last true comedy greats, the stand-up comedian is known for appearances on classic British TV shows including 'The Comedians' and Tiswas and trademark ctachphrase 'It's a cracker!' as much as his dedication to charity work. After winning the national favourite talent show 'Opportunity Knocks' early on his career, Carson has gone on to become a houselhold name in British comedy, racking up 56 years in showbusiness.

THE DESTROYERS, THE TOY HEARTS & THE OLD DANCE SCHOOL

Riotous fifteen piece collective and Birmingham favourites The Destroyers will be joined by two hotly tipped Midlands bands The Toy Hearts and The Old Dance School for a night of eclectic and pan-global musical bohemia as part of the 175TH series.

Launching their debut single 'Out of Babel' on 19 June, with same titled album due for release in September, The Destroyers' vivid collision of careering Klezmer rhythms, explosive Balkan brass and hypnotic beat poetry will be more than complimented by the superbly modern take on bluegrass of The Toy Hearts and inspirational world music and folk from The Old Dance School.

STEVE EARLE

The American singer-songwriter extraordinaire Steve Earle returns to Town Hall after his sell out show in 2008, celebrating new album 'Townes' which was released earlier this month and features appearances from acclaimed Rage Against The Machine member Tom Morello as well as Earle's wife and son.

The recent star of hit TV series 'The Wire', Earle is famous for his love of country and rock as well as his other roles as political activist - speaking out against both the Vietnam Wars and the invasion of Iraq - and published writer. His working credits include collaborations with Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Patti Smith, two Grammy awards and a lifetime achievement award by BBC Radio 2.
