WOLVES COUNCIL - NO PC'S TO LANDFILL, NO £30K LOAN

12-08-2008

Wolverhampton Council has denied rumours that all its old computers are being sent to landfill – and has also scotched a persistent claim on The Stirrer Forum that it’s lending £30,000 to management consultants Axon.

Earlier we reported staff gossip that during the course of wholesale computer upgrade, the local authority was dumping its old equipment (see link here).

Rejecting those claims, Councillor Wendy Thompson, cabinet member for resources, governance and support services, said: "There is no truth to these landfill rumours.

"The council has an agreement with Dell to provide us with new equipment and dispose of the old equipment properly. The vast majority of it has a resale value and they will be reconditioned and sold on. Any that have no resale value will be disposed of according to EU recycling standards.

"We are transforming the council to deliver excellent customer services and having the right IT systems is crucial."

As for that supposed interest free handout to the Council’s Business Transformation partners, chief financial officer Pat Main said: "We are not giving any loans to Axon, full stop. There is no semblance of truth in this whatsoever."
