WHITBY FOE PAYS PRICE IN SUTTON

24-06-2009

Peter Howard, arch enemy of Council leader Mike Whitby, has been deposed as leader of Sutton Coldfield Conservatives. Colleagues suggest he’s paying the price for supporting Whitby’s recent rival for the top job Randal Brew.

Cllr Howard was also recently removed as the Conservative nominee on the Fire Authority, prompting one Stirrer source to suggest that “once crossed, Whitby does not forget”.

Whatever the truth of that suggestion, he has been replaced in Sutton by Ann Underwood, a Whitby loyalist and former leader herself, who fancies her chances of becoming Lord Mayor next year, especially if she has the top man’s backing.

Current Cabinet Member for Transport Len Gregory might have something to say about that, though, as he’s apparently interested in wearing the Mayoral chain too.
