STALLING? NOT US SAY BROMSGROVE

17-03-2009

Claims that Bromsgrove Council is stalling on a meeting with campaigners opposed to the closure of lottery funded Haybridge Sports Centre in Hagley have now got a response – of sorts.

On The Stirrer yesterday, Hagley resident and Stirrer blogger Dr David Nicholl claimed the local authority was unwilling to attend a roundtable discussion with Sport England and local protestors – despite promises to the contrary – because they were trying to hide the fact that they could legally wash their hands of the contract under which the centre was funded.

A leaked email suggested that responsibility for returning all or some of the £800,000 rested not with BDC – which was making the decision – but Worcestershire County Council (see link here).

Bromsgrove won’t comment on the details of the email arguing that it is a private document.

And as for the proposed meeting, with campaigners, they said: ““The Council has been in regular contact with Dr David Nicholls. We are also continuing to have full discussions with Haybridge School about the provision of leisure facilities. The current situation has been explained to Dr Nicholls.”
