PESTER POWER

18-06-2009

So what would you like Birmingham to do next? The City Council has just launched an online petition service, and we’d love to harness the power of Stirrer readers to us it positively.

Petitions are nothing new of course. The internet simply allows us to do online what we’ve been doing with pen and ink for centuries – but of course it allows supporters to organise en masse at the click of a button.

So what can we think of that would galvanise the public into getting behind a plan which would change Britain’s second city for the better?

My suggestion is that we should have a discussion on the Forum to suss out the interest, figure out a way to have a vote, and then – if there’s a critical mass behind a particular issue – maybe we can deliver a petition with real clout.

Should we demand a special noise policy for Digbeth? Call for a full register of councillors’ allowances and expenses? Or demand the preservation of the Central Library?

Maybe you can think of a better subject?

Either way, it’s over to you – and the Message Board. Let the deliberations begin.

SO WHAT SHOULD WE PETITION FOR? DISCUSS THIS ON THE STIRRER FORUM
