"CANADIAN QUEEN OF SPIN" STEPS DOWN

01-06-2010

Birmingham Council’s £100,000 a year PR boss Debra Davis – aka the “Canadian Queen of Spin” - has announced that she’s stepping down today to become Director of Communications at the new City TV venture run by her partner Alan Grindley.

Davis sent an email to colleagues and friends this morning which was leaked to The Stirrer – allowing us to break the news on our Forum.

Summing up her three and a half years at the helm, Davis said: “I am particularly proud of our achievements with the birminghamnewsroom.com.

“They have just won the Innovation Award at the Midlands Media Awards and a silver award at the LG Comms Reputation Awards.”

She added, “As many know, Alan Grindley, my partner, Founder and Chief Executive of City TV, has been working hard to set up City TV Birmingham as a first in a series of local television stations across the UK.

“It is time that I supported his venture more closely bringing experience and a network that will, in the end, support this great city. I will be returning in mid summer with the prospect to open the doors to City TV in the autumn.

Following Davis’s departure Press and Communications will see a major reshuffle – for starters it will be brought into under the Strategic Director of Culture and Environment Sharon Lea.
