JUG EMPTIES FOR THE FINAL TIME
One of Birmingham’s most famous rock venues, the Jug of Ale in Moseley, is closing next week, following months of rumours about its future. The final gig will be on Sunday.
We revealed in August that developers were circling the pub, and at the time landlady Anne Garside admitted that it was “a possibility” (see link here).
In September, she went further, commenting: “There's been interest in this site for a very long time. It's prime building land, and it will be sold eventually.
Now, it seems her worst fears have been realised. A couple of shows over the next few days are being advertised as the “Jug Of Ale Farewell Gigs” (http://www.myspace.com/thecatapultclub).
The final performance next week will see a headline show from Misty’s Big Adventure and a DJ set by Ed Lay of The Editors – who performed regularly at The Jug.
Other top acts who’ve performed there include Oasis and David Gray.
