Shows from the legendary Ray Davies, eighties chart-toppers Go West and the International Dance festival Birmingham have been announced. As ever, Lyle Bignon from the venues brings us up to date.

RAY DAVIES
Ray Davies, founder of the Kinks and one of the greatest British songwriters is set to return to Symphony Hall on Thursday 20th May. Davies, whose hits with the Kinks include You Really Got Me, All Day and All of The Night, Lola, and Waterloo Sunset among many others, released The Kinks Choral Collection last year with the Crouch End Festival Chorus, and will feature in a new film later this year directed by Julien Temple.

INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL BIRMINGHAM
Showcasing a huge range of dance styles at venues across the city and the West Midlands, IDFB 2010 is the region’s biggest dance festival. It will feature a world-class programme of outstanding dance performances from around the globe, large-scale events for mass public participation, workshops, commissions and debates. Performances taking place at Birmingham Town Hall include the contemporary and traditional flamenco of Chanta La Mui and Gnosis – a new solo work exploring the kathak roots of acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan. Other programme highlights include The Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Mark Morris Dance Group, Strictly Come Dancing The Professionals, Sutra and CIRCA.

GO WEST
The English synth-pop duo who saw success in the US with hit songs King of Wishful Thinking, Faithful and Call Me are to play Symphony Hall on Saturday 10th April. BRIT Award winners Peter Cox and Richard Drummie achieved a string of hits before splitting up in 1993. In April 2001 Go West released an album, The Best of Go West - Live At The NEC, a concert recorded during their last live tour together.
