TOP CITY OFFICIALS FACING THE AXE

16-02-2010

The thousands of workers facing job losses at Birmingham City Council can take some comfort in the fact that senior officers are in the firing line too. We’ve discovered that posts will also disappear in Chief Executive Stephen Hughes own department.

Hughes, has issued a “Consultation” document entitled "Reorganisation Of Corporate Centre", aimed at generating annual savings of £1.5million. The outcome should be know by the end of this week.

The suggestion is that various high powered posts will be deleted, incuding:

Corporate Director of Resources
Corporate Director of Governance
Corporate Director of Business Change
Corporate Director of Public Affairs & Communications
Corporate Director of Policy & Delivery
Director of Scrutiny
Assistant Director of Finance
Assistant Director of Revenues and Benefits
Assistant Director of Shared Services
Assistant Director Customer Services
Head of Policy & Performance.

Four new posts will be created.
Strategic Director of Resources
Director of Democracy & Scrutiny
Director of Transactional Services
Director of Policy.

Top city officials including Paul Dransfield (Corporate Director of Resources) Mirza Ahmed (Governance) Glyn Evans (Business Change) and Debra Davies (Public Affairs) will see their existing posts disappear, and they will have to compete probably against each other for some of the new posts.

One job that won’t be affected is that of Chief Executive – leaving Mr Hughes and his annual £200,000 salary untouched.
