Mike Olley

Never mind the Clinton’s – the West Midlands could be preparing to launch its own husband and wife political dynasty.

Former Birmingham councillor Mike Olley – currently the Broad Street manager – last year laughed off. The Stirrer’s suggestion that he might be eying up a return to politics – but that didn’t stop him seeking nomination (unsuccessfully, as it turned out) as Labour’s candidate in the Erdington parliamentary seat.

Not to be outdone we now discover that his wife Lorraine – who works for Birmingham Council – is taking soundings about whether she should go for the Walsall South seat where Bruce George is standing down.

Now that an all-woman shortlist has been imposed Mrs Olley might stand a chance if she decides to go for it – although she’ll face fierce competition from the likes of former West Midlands MEP Neena Gill.

Don’t rule it out though – with hubby perhaps coming up on the rails as a Birmingham mayoral candidate.

Mike and Lorraine – the West Midlands own Hil and Bill.
