MORE JOBS GO AS COUNCIL TAX HELD

10-02-2010

Brummies are facing a 1.9% Council Tax increase this year – as exclusively forecast here in November – but the sting in the tail is that up to 2,000 posts could be cut.

Details are contained in the local authority’s budget which has just been published online and identifies efficiency savings of £69 million.

Council Tax will rise by 40p a week for a Band D homeowner, but its clear that workers will have to bear the brunt of this modest increase.

On Page 30 of the budget it states, “it is likely there could be a reduction in funded posts in the region of 1,500-2,000 posts”.
