MAKING A NOISE ABOUT COUNCIL CUTS 23-02-2010 Campaigners will be bringing their pots and pans to make a noise about job and service cuts outside Birmingham Council House this afternoon. They’ll be joined by a posse of union leaders – including Labour’s prospective candidate for Erdington Jack Dromey. Councillors are expected to approve plans to shave £69million from the local authority budget, but will have to do so against a background of a protest in Victoria Square aimed at creating as much volume as possible - beginning at 4.30pm. With up to 2,000 posts expected to disappear in the next financial year, the demo has attracted the interest of national trade union bigwigs, including Dave Prentiss, the General Secretary of Unison, his West Midlands colleague Roger McKenzie, and of course Dromey, who was also keen to take a high profile position during the Cadbury takeover battle – all very handy with that Erdington battle looming.
