LEISURE BOSS ENTERS THE LION’S DEN

03-02-2010

Birmingham leisure supremo Martin Mullaney has agreed to enter the “lion’s den” tonight and attend a public meeting over the future of Sparkhill Swimming Baths – just days after withdrawing from the event.

Mullaney has been taken aback by the furore surrounding proposals to explore a possible partnership with a private contractor to rebuild the pool, after it was revealed last week on The Stirrer.

After initially pulling out of tonight’s meeting organised by the Save Our Swimming pressure group, he invited the group’s leaders to see him privately at the Council House – a compromise which was duly rejected.

Now Mullaney has accepted that his best policy is to deal with his critics face to face – even it means he’s in for an uncomfortable ride.

The meeting is at 6.45pm tonight at Sparkhill Social and Cultural Centre on Stratford Rd, next to the swimming baths.
