IT’S LIKE PUNK NEVER HAPPENED

24-02-2010

As the League Cup final gets nearer, Dave Woodhall has been investigating a disturbing trend amongst Villa supporters and is beginning to wonder if it wouldn’t have been better to let Blackburn go to Wembley instead.

It’s the Mail’s fault. While we all knew that Villa getting to Wembley would unleash a cacophony of musical tributes, at least we were keeping them pretty much quiet and to ourselves. Well, to ourselves anyway. Quiet was hardly the word.

But then the Mail chipped in and here we are being shown up to the world with the search for the Favourite Villa Wembley Song.

Championess is performed by X Factor contestant Nikki Evans, a woman whose support for the Villa goes back weeks. At least she’s had the grace to say she intends to burn all the copies of this aural atrocity she can get her hands on.

The Ultimate Wembley Anthem by members of Brummie band Rattlesnake Kiss mixes a decent tune with some cringeworthy lyrics and is the runaway leader of the Mail’s vote, which is hardly a recommendation.

AV Carling Cup Rap features a quite frankly scary old lady and a worryingly younger bloke playing drums.

Aston Villa Carling Cup 2010 has thankfully been removed from Yotube and can’t be commented on.

Song For John Carew is by the embarrassing Colin Davies, who clogs up Youtube with a collection of the most excruciating tunes ever recorded. Please make him go away.

Please make all of them go away.
