CUTS, CUTS...AND CONSULTANTS

03-02-2010

Curious news reaches the Stirrer’s ears about Birmingham Council’s Childrens, Young People and Families Department which is already reeling from 1300 potential job losses. It seems that more cuts are imminent – yet for senior officers, the gravy train rolls on.

Not content with placing staff under notice of redundancy, the department is now apparently targeting disabled kids for its next round of cuts.

We understand that significant reductions are planned in the budget for adapting mainstream schools for use by children in wheelchairs or with other disabilities.

Not everyone is losing out though. Rumour has it that ra ecently retired service director Mike Yarnold is back on the Council's payroll – trousering £750 per day as a consultant.

We’ve also been told that another senior post has been filled in the Education department by a worker who has retired from a different local authority.

Her pension pot is now being topped up with a £5,000 four day a week contract.

Nice work if you can get it.

Birmingham Council is considering a response.
