DUDLEY: THE HOLE TRUTH

20-06-2009

Glyn Berrington's efforts to persuade Dudley Council to fill in the town's potholes took a twist the other day when after an extended email correspondence, the Head of Street Care and Green care Garry Dean sent him a letter. Undeterred, Glyn saddled up and got back on his computer.

Hi Garry

I have your snail mail letter of 11 June and the enclosed copy of your similar letter of 3 June, the original never reached me. Not surprising as the address to which you wrote is not my correct postal address.

I cannot understand why you chose to correspond in this way, there is a long email trail prior to then, and so that was surely the way to continue the correspondence?

Moreover, if you're going to resort to the more formal method of communication, at least let's try go get it gramatically correct (has DMBC dispensed with the use of apostrophes?), and not to try to blind our Council-Tax payers with science (I have absolutely no idea what "yearly UKPMS scanner condition surveys" are, nor do I care - all I'm concerned about is the appalling state of roads within the borough and yes, since I work outdoors I'm well aware that we had a rough winter)

Anyway, to the matter in hand:

Will you please prioritise road repairs at the following locations (the worst of around 100 potholes which I've reported in recent weeks):

Tennyson Street Pensnett
Milton Street Pensnett

Granville Drive Kingswinford
The Portway Kingswinford

Bromley Lane and the entrance to Bromley School

I'm far too busy to continue chasing, and you assure me that the Council employs people to identify potholes anyway; and yet I've had to report all of the above locations at least three times.

On the above basis, I will call a truce and not correspond with you on this subject for four weeks from now.

If, however, the repairs have not been carried out by then (I think four weeks is an extremely reasonable timescale bearing in mind that the repairs are already long overdue), I will be submitting a formal complaint and referring the matter to my Local Councillors and my MP

Thanks

Glyn Berrington
