DRAG ME TO HELL

Drag Me To hell

“Spiderman” director Sam Raimi revisits his “Evil Dead” roots with this hugely enjoyable gorefest. If you’re into horror, you’ll love this.

Plot wise, we see ambitious bank worker Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) taking the tough decision to evict an elderly woman who’s defaulted on her mortgage.

Christine doesn’t want to do it, but hey man, that’s business – especially as she’s eyeing up the vacant assistant manager’s job and trying to impress her boss.

The old crone, Mrs Ganush (Lorna Raver) isn’t content to be turned out on to the street without a battle and lays a curse on her young adversary.

Cue an hour and a half of spooky fun, as Christine attempts to fight off her ghoulish fate in the company of preppy boyfriend Clay (Justin Long).

Raimi’s talent is to deliver half a dozen truly jolting moments, and just as many laughs – especially during an alternately comical and scary dinner party when Christine tries to impress Clay’s snooty mum.

All in all, splendid old school hokum.
