CADBURY'S PETITION NO LONGER TAKES THE BISCUIT
12-12-2009

Peace has broken out in the battle of Cadbury's, with Birmingham Council finally accepting a Labour petition calling on the government to protect workers in the event of a takeover by Kraft.
As we reported earlier this week , the local authority rejected the first draft proposed by Sir Albert Bore, saying "Petitions should be relevant to a matter over which the Council has powers or duties".
Now it's been re-worded to say: "We the undersigned call upon the Council to use its well-being powers to lobby the Government to do all it can, within the powers available to it, to protect the interests of Cadbury in any takeover bids by overseas companies, and to ensure that a strong Cadbury presence in Birmingham is maintained so assisting the many individuals and families in Birmingham whose livelihood is dependent on the Cadbury operation in Bournville."
Long winded, certainly, but well intentioned too - and now within the rules.
