COUNCIL HAS TO POOL RESOURCES 12-12-2008 Yesterday we asked the question - just how is Birmingham City Council planning to pay for the new 50 metre Olympic-sized pool in the city? And now we’ve had an answer – sort of. A spokesman said: “A funding strategy is being developed which will include land disposals, developer contributions, partnering arrangements and external grant funding. "The strategy will then be brought back as part of the for business case to full cabinet." So it looks like they don’t really know then. Yet the Council says it’s hoping to have the building ready in time to attract teams training for the 2012 Olympics. Optimistic or what? Just like the Council’s pledge to develop a new Central Library by 2013, in fact which is also being funded from the same ragbag of optimistically identified sources (see link here).
