Callum O'Connell's Blues Blog

Blues take on Hereford United in the second round of the Carling Cup tonight, buoyed by their first Premier League win of the season against Derby County.

Blues' first win of the season but what does it mean for the rest of the season?

I think that it will give us that much needed confidence boost to now go on and win more.

The fact that we couldn't beat Sunderland or West Ham was I think down to the pressure we as Blues fans put on players to do well.

Yes, we demand high standards and we expect to win at home against poor sides and I think now after this away victory we have that confidence that will enable to us to beat teams at St. Andrews.

Steve Bruce has also confirmed that we are on the lookout for a new midfielder and and are aiming to sign one before the transfer window closes.

The speculation has focused on Peter Luccin of Athletico Madrid who you may think 'he might be a good addition' but from my research it shows he's scored only 5 goals in 80 appearances for Athletico.

Other players mentioned areFaye of Charlton and Diop of Fulham. Steve Bruce had his say in about English youth and it seems he is following the route of so many other managers by signing foreign players.

Overall I feel that the performance at Derby and knowing that Cameron Jerome can score goals, we have a good chance avoiding relegation - but I know we will be thereabouts come the end of the season.
