Callum’s Blues Blog

Alex McLeish was greeted by a virtual full house for his first game in charge of Blues who remain above the relegation zone after picking up a valuable point against Reading. Callum O’ Connell reports on the new mood of positivity around St Andrews.

So Blues were unlucky yet again but a point is a point so we are now that bit closer to safety.

We were up against a team high on confidence; Reading only just missed out on Europe last year and beat Liverpool 3-1 last weekend so we can consider a draw against them a good result.

The fans were immense on Saturday a true Blues crowd - it seems an attacking mentality and a new manager can do wonders, although the price cuts helped.

There’s been a lot of talk around about how well the players are responding to ‘Big Eck’. It shows on the pitch as well - a lot of passing to feet which benefits players like Forssell and Jerome. Sullivan and Gold say they feel invigorated and things with Bruce were just going a bit stale.

Carson Yeung’s takeover seems dead in the water like I’ve been saying for many weeks. Carson has apparently been working frantically in the past week so get the deal done.

The January transfer window is opening soon and blues have been linked with several players. Ithink our priorities are a left back and a striker. Two possible candidates are James McFadden from Everton - a great striker - and for left back I still think Konchesky would be a great buy.

Bad news for blues that I keep hearing about is that if Jerome keeps improving like he is every week then he could be off to a bigger club and if the Pennant situation is anything to go buy I think Gold and Sullivan will be licking their lips at the possibility.
