Seb Larsson’s late wonder-goal gave “Big ‘Eck” Alex McLeish a dream debut as Blues manager. Callum O’Connell welcomes the new arrival in the St Andrews dugout.

A great win for Blues at White Hart Lane. When was the last time we scored 3 in a game? In fact, when was our last victory? Answer, in both cases - too long ago.

I said last week that Blues needed to look for a manager with experience and who was realistically available – McLeish fits that bill nicely. According to David Gold, he could go one to be as successful as his old Aberdeen mentor Alex Ferguson, although let’s be honest, it would be nigh on impossible to achieve that level of success at Birmingham City. No harm in trying though.

‘Big Eck’ as he is known is a two-time winner of the Scottish league with Rangers and now finds himself up against his old Celtic rival Martin O’Neill at Villa, I truly hope that McLeish does well as Birmingham City need Premiership survival.

The Carson Yeung takeover seems to have definitely hit the rocks as David Gold stated today that there is less than 40% chance of the Hong Kong tycoon taking over.

As I said last week the board will need to invest in January and I said it was unlikely they would. Just a few days later they stated that Bruce would have had £4 million to spend in January… definitely not enough for Premiership survival, maybe that’s what turned Lippi and Jol off.
