Callum’s Blues Blog

Hat-trick hero Mikael Forssel has given Blues new hope after Saturday’s thrilling victory against Spurs. Now Callum O’Connell confidently expects Premiership survival.

Last week, after the heroics of the 2-2 draw with Arsenal, I was quietly confident about this week and the visit of Spurs - especially after their Carling Cup victory over Chelsea and the fact that they have a UEFA Cup tie with PSV this week. So I wondered about the possibility of a hangover and a 2nd string team.

The hangover was correct, but the 2nd string team wasn't - with the likes of Dimitar Berbatov playing, you had to wonder what the result could be.

However Blues came out all guns blazing, and the former Chelsea man Mikael Forssell provided three of the four goals. Sebastian Larsson with his free kick made it four.

However it was McFadden again providing inspiration for the team and Gary McSheffrey showing that he can cut it at this level. Zarate came on and had a wonderful chance to make it five but just lacked a bit of composure in front of goal.

Blues I think will now stay up and here are my predictions about who the three relegated teams will be:

18th – Reading. Despite their win at Middlebrough, I don’t feel they’ll be able to get a run of results together.

19th - Fulham, seem doomed from a few weeks back.

20th – Derby - are long down.

This week, it was great for McSheffrey to get a go in the team as he has lacked starting roles this season, but I do feel De Ridder is the better player and could still be the hero of the season - just get him and Zarate playing and I think results will keep on coming.
