BLIND DAVE’S ‘SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT’ TAKES HONOUR

08-12-2008

Mac and Dave

West Brom marathon runner and Stirrer blogger Blind Dave Heeley won the Special Achievement Award at last night’s BBC Midlands Sports Awards for his amazing feat of running seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

Dave and his guide runner Malcolm Carr saw off impressive competition in the shape of pedalling pensioners from Warwickshire who’d raised millions for charity by touring America, and the first deaf person to trek to the North Pole.

"It's fitting end to a great year" Dave commented.

"We announced last year at the same event that we were going to do it, and I'm not sure anyone believed it - including ourselves.

"You hear what other people have achieved too, and to win in that company is something to be really proud of."

Since completing their amazing 7/7/7 Dave has now taken up a full-time career as a motivational public speaker.

"It's going really well" he said.  "I've got bookings well into the New Year, but I'm still focussing on my running too.

"We're looking for another crack at the New York marathon, and I want a record time there."
